There is a captivating background to the Cambodia gambling dens that sit just over the dividing line from nearby Thailand, where casino betting is prohibited. Eight gambling dens are based in a generally tiny location in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling halls is in a prime destination, a 3 to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest gaming locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai laborers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very couple of Westerners. The astonishing capital accrued from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a number of restrictions constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is presumed to be largely Thai; however, financial sources are ambiguous. The borders are ceremoniously open from 0900 to 17:00, and though visas are apparently required to cross, there are methods around this, as is true of many borders.

The 1st Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored bateau gambling den, highlights 150 one armed bandits and sixty gaming tables. The Naga gambling hall never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat, four tables of vingt-et-un, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The 1st casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown before long followed. There are one hundred and fifty slots and five tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machine games and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred slot machine games and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machine games and ninety six table games, including eighty seven baccarat (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machine games and 66 of the familiar tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a comprehensive vacation and hotel compound that highlights numerous conveniences aside from the casino, which offers ten thousand sq.ft. of 130 slot machines and 88 tables.
